A specialization of cold-blooded animal and vertebrate. Each instance of amphibian isa a cold-blodded and smooth-skinned vertebrate that hatches from an egg to form an aquatic larva (see larva), which then metamorphoses into an air-breathing adult (see air-breathing vertebrate). Important subcollections include frog and salamander.
